Philadelphia Periodontist Lists the Top Five Benefits of LANAP

PHILADELPHIA, PA – As a result of his use of the laser-assisted new attachment procedure, commonly referred to as LANAP, Philadelphia periodontist Dr. David DiGiallorenzo has identified what he considers to be the top five benefits of LANAP over traditional periodontal treatment.

DiGiallorenzo, who also is a Philadelphia dental implants specialist, has used LANAP in his practice since early 2009.

The benefits of LANAP that he has identified are as follows:

Less Invasive
LANAP was developed by Dr. Robert H. Gregg and offers an alternative to treating gum disease with traditional scalpel and suture surgery. After a patient has been diagnosed with gum disease, the LANAP is used to gently pass between the gum line and the teeth to vaporize disease and leave healthy tissue in its place. LANAP uses a fiberoptic that is equivalent in size to about three human hairs. The process uses ultrasonic root debridement to clean root surfaces, followed by a different laser setting to clot the blood so the periodontist gets a good seal, thus eliminating the need to use sutures. Philadelphia, PA Dental Implants Expert to Appear on Philadelphia Cable Channel

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Dr. David DiGiallorenzo, a Philadelphia, PA dental implants specialist recently taped a segment of The Wellness Hour with Randy Alvarez, which airs at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights on WNET Channel 13 in the Philadelphia market.

The segment focuses on spreading the word that there are other options for treating periodontal disease than the traditional “cut and stitch” method, said the Collegeville and Philadelphia, PA periodontist.

DiGiallorenzo discusses the single-visit laser technique called laser-assisted new attachment procedure- or LANAP- as a favorable alternative to traditional surgical treatment. Prior to LANAP, DiGiallorenzo had to cut into a patient’s gums, peel back a portion of the gum to expose the teeth and scrape the plaque and tartar build-up from the teeth. After the cleaning, he would fold the gum back down and suture it so it could heal. (more…)

Philadelphia PA Dental Implants Specialist Celebrates National Sleep Awareness Week to Promote Sleep Apnea Treatment

PHILADELPHIA, PA – March 7-13, 2010 is National Sleep Awareness Week and one Philadelphia, PA periodontist is using it as an opportunity to educate the public on a non-surgical sleep apnea treatment option offered in his practice.

In preparation for National Sleep Awareness Week, Dr. David DiGiallorenzo, a Philadelphia, PA dental implants specialist, recently added a new page to his Web site devoted to sleep apnea and snoring.

The site explains what sleep apnea is, types of sleep apnea, and treatment options available today. Sleep apnea is a condition where a person quits breathing for seconds at a time during sleep. This often happens up to 10 times an hour in people with obstructive sleep apnea.

“Getting a truly restful sleep each night is necessary for overall health,” said DiGiallorenzo, who owns a Collegeville and Williamsport practice that routinely treats Philadelphia, PA periodontics patients, as well as patients suffering from sleep apnea and disruptive snoring.

Patients who have sleep apnea typically do not get a restful sleep each night, and that can have long-term consequences when left untreated, he said. The challenge with sleep apnea sufferers is that often, they don’t realize they have the condition. It typically is brought to light when a spouse notices that the sleep apnea sufferer quits breathing as they sleep, or snores loudly during sleep.

A snoring and sleep apnea treatment option offered by the Philadelphia, PA periodontists in DiGiallorenzo’s practice is a sort of retainer that is custom made for each individual patient. The device keeps the lower jaw in a protruded position, which helps reduce or stop snoring.

National Sleep Awareness Week is an annual awareness and public education campaign sponsored by the National Sleep Foundation that will be kicked off this year with its first Sleep Health & Safety Conference in National Harbor, Md. on March 5-6. Topics will include diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, including circadian rhythm disorders, obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia.

Philadelphia Periodontist Fights CID With Laser

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The advent of laser periodontal treatment has proven to be useful in painlessly treating a variety of oral problems, including chronic inflammatory disease.

Philadelphia Periodontist Dr. David DiGiallorenzo began using laser periodontal treatment in his office earlier this year.  The  laser helps ensure oral problems are treated early enough, which can prevent tooth loss.  The laser also prevents more serious problems associated with bacterial infections, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, heart attack, diabetes and pre-term, low birthweight babies.

“Chronic inflammatory disease can be deadly,” said DiGiallorenzo, a Philadelphia dental implants specialist. “It can do more than cause you to lose your teeth. It can lead to much more serious illnesses.  Your oral health is a window into your overall health.”
